 Are you having problems, because of adjacent creeks, with draining water from your property after heavy rains?  File reports with the city at  http://www.cstx.gov/home/index.asp?page=928

In our clay soil, raised beds work best. 

- A good soil mix is 1/3 topsoil, 1/3 composted material, and 1/3 sand.

- Maintain soil fertility by adding mulch, organic material (compost, leaf mold, or composted manure), or chemical fertilizers.

- Use composted not fresh manure.  Fresh manure will add too much nitrogen to the soil, which can damage roots.

- Potting mix is acceptable.
